Background
Alec Hartley founded The Hartley Law Firm on a simple idea: every person charged with a crime deserves the best possible representation. That belief wasn't formed in a classroom — it was built in the courtroom.
After earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, Alec began his career as a Public Defender in the Kansas City Trial Office in downtown Kansas City. There, he handled hundreds of cases — from misdemeanors to serious felonies — and developed the courtroom instincts, trial skills, and client-first philosophy that define his practice today.
That experience taught Alec something most lawyers learn too late: the difference between preparing a case and preparing to win a case. Prosecutors can tell when an attorney is ready for trial. When they know you're willing to fight, the entire negotiation changes.
